Speaking of social media expertdom, last week Carlo and I were interviewed by WNYC’s Veralyn Williams and her Radio Rookies protege Brianna. We talked about Blogging, Facebook, DAPS and Internet Culture. It was a lot of fun, I look forward to hearing the final cut of the interview in January.

Finally, my blogging career which has put me in first degree contact with my Favorite Director has now allowed me to spend some quality time with my favorite band. On Thursday, August 19th I was privileged to do coverage at  Less Than Jake’s Rocks Off concert cruise.

During the last month Tavis, Carlo and I very quietly launched the website for our new social media service Social Gofr. The design of “Murray Gofr” was done by my uncle Guy T Olivieri.

Last week I was in studio at RXP 101.9FM with Rich Russo and Dave Giordano where we were joined by The Soprano’s Star Vincent Pastore. Dave took some amazing shots which you can check out here.

Also, Yesterday I made my first ever trip to Central Park, which is pretty much a crime as a lifelong New Yorker. I finally see what all the hype is about… I also snapped what I’m (half jokingly) calling “The single greatest portrait ever to be taken on an iPhone” of my beautiful girlfriend Krista.

Yeah, I photoshopped it.. But that’s half the fun in this digital world we find ourselves living in, right?!? Before my trip to CP, I was greeted on Facebook by a message from my friend Irena telling me that her friends over in California were checking out the DAPS site without being prompted. I feel like a proud papa who’s kid is shipped away to college doing things I don’t, and would rather not know about.

Finally, I’ll leave you with another dose of Pontwittification, that is, life philosophy that I leave on my Twitter account for you to take in.

The next morning I was inspired to photoshop the crap out of them. I’m pretty happy with how they turned out.

It’s been a really fun past couple of days for me and my fellow 17 to Midnight crew. On Sunday we took home the award for BEST LOCAL FILM in the SINY Film Festival, and Monday Executive Producer Carlo Montagnino, Producer Gabriella Loutfi (Who also won for best new filmmaker), and Director Nick Caccese were interviewed by NY1 news.

For several of the filmmakers, last night was a clear sign that they should keeping following their dreams. Gabriella Loutfi of Richmond won the award for Best New Filmmaker for her short, “Apartment 7.” The 22-year-old enrolled in the New York Film Academy after graduating from Fordham University.

“I was a little scared to go into film because I knew there’s sacrifices. But I went ahead 500 percent and look at me now,” she said, beaming. “This is like out of this world for me.”

Last week AWE (The Staten Island Advance’s weekly entertainment pullout section) ran a piece about Rich Russo and his involvement in the Staten Island music scene over the course of the past year. The piece, written by Ben Johnson, struck a nerve with island residents and was the 2nd most commented article on the site the day it was released. The article featured a quote from yours truly. Check out what I said, and read the entire piece here.

“I’ve been working with Rich since his inception into Staten Island culture, and it’s interesting to see the evolution how people react to his presence. At first, I don’t think people really understood what they were dealing with. Rich is kind of an anomaly, a personality from a large media outlet who has a genuine belief in the talent that Staten Island is producing. The interest in our island is far from fleeting, it’s genuine enough that Rich has popped up at events everywhere from Martini Red to The Wild Goose, he’s been to Burnt Youth shows and played the Wahoo Skiffle Crazies on his show.

While the Jersey Shores and the True Lifes of the world are showing america the zit on the face of Staten Island, Rich is doing his best to introduce them to likes of The Seconds and Plastiq Passion. There’s no reason that America should know the name Mike Sorrentino any more than the name Joe Pecora. Actually, I think the masses would benefit more from Pecora’s type of wailing. It’s for the large market exposure those which bands are seeing that people are starting to “get it”, I’m happy that they are because I’ve seen it all along.”
